On a Personal Note

I don’t understand when people think business is just about a transaction of payment for services.

I saw this anonymous quote today related to business, ’People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel.’

This is so true. Over the last fifteen years in business, I’ve been involved in deals made purely on the basis of a personal recommendation, or an existing relationship.

Let me tell you something about myself – I’ve got a benign tumour inside a bone in my left arm. Early next year, I’m going to have the tumour and the bone removed, and receive a bone transplant from my leg to my wrist. I won’t be able to move my wrist again and I’m left handed.

This is a big deal for me and while not directly related to ‘doing business’, I think it’s worth sharing this kind of news with people who I work with. For one, if we both share – it means we can understand each other better, and work better together.

I’d love to hear what you think about relationships within business contexts, does this ring true for you?

Oh, and while we’re talking about it – what do you think of this video?
